The Global Bhatia met this young man called Devansh Bhatia(who prefers to call himself DAWGeek). DAWGeek…etle?DAW stands for Digital Audio Workstation. It is an electronic device or software for recording, editing and producing audio files such as musical pieces, songs, speech or sound effects. And ‘geeks’ are people obsessed with a hobby or intellectual pursuit and may not necessarily be like ‘mainstream’ people. DAW+Geek = Devansh Bhatia. Let’s know him better….
Let’s do the 7 pedhi Challenge. Do you know names of seven ancestor generations?

Great! Now let’s get to business – what do you do for a living?
I make music for a living. Musician, Music Composer, Music Producer and a Sound Engineer.
What made you take it up? How did you arrive at the decision?
Music was just a hobby. I was amazing at sketching cars and I wanted to become an Automobile Designer. I had appeared for my Design Entrance Test, but didn’t get through. I wanted to do something productive till I reappear for my test, so i took up a Diploma Course in Sound Engineering and even excelled at it!
It introduced me to another world – that of music and the music industry. I never appeared for that design test again and continued to pursue music.
That’s an unconventional choice, isn’t it? Were your parents convinced? Did you face any kind of resistance?
I’ve been really blessed with super-supportive parents that push me to pursue my dreams.
Do share some experiences…of how you dealt with the highs and lows?
An artist’s life is full of highs and lows. In the initial years, be ready for exploitation (of work)and don’t expect to make money. Since art itself is so subjective, you tend to be lost – there’s hardly any concept of right and wrong. After getting a hang of it, I became confident and startedpaving a path for myself.
I’m still on my journey uncertain of where its gonna take me but I love it.
Did you ever face depression or helplessness? What would you advice others in challenging situa-ons?
It happens ALL THE TIME. Circumstances hit me hard and put me down sometimes. At such situations, I talk to my parents. I tell them how I feel and they are rarely surprised. I realize that my parents have already seen my problems coming…haha! I cry out to them too. The way they listen to me and make me deal with my issues, flushes out half the stress. About the rest, a chill session with my besties eradicates the depression and the helplessness.
How were you as a student? Looking back, what do you think about those days? Was there stress about studies?
My parents are education professionals and guess what…I SUCKED AT ACADEMICS!But it was more of a stress to my mom than to me. I wouldn’t just mug up things until my mom read out my text books to me.
What are the next steps…how have you planned your career?
There’s no preset ‘pathway to success’ like promotions, increment, etc in my career. So improvising and keeping at it continuously is the way to I guess.
Do you have a mentor?
Google. The Best. Ever.
What is your most special achievement?
In 2013, I had created a version of the Indian National Anthem, which bagged an award amongst 100 of entries from all over the nation, hosted by a crowd sourcing website, ‘TalentHouse’. It was played prior to every movie in theatres across India for months and gained popularity over the internet shortly after its release. I was overwhelmed. It was my first and one of the major milestones in my career.
What are the 3 important lessons you have learnt?
- Don’t downgrade your dream just to fit your reality.
 - Stay away from people who say you won’t make it.
 - Be grateful to those who push you to succeed.
